Question
I have used the suitcase release for the full roller for years and am determined to change over to a semi roller.  I think this should be easier for me since I have used the suitcase release.  I still swing the ball to the rear and then at the release point, I'm trying to just allow the ball to roll off my fingers with my thumb at 12 oclock.  Am I on the right track?

Answer
I have seen a few full rollers & they all threw very differently.I can give you a few pointers though. As you hold the ball, keep the weight of the ball in your palm. Position your hand the way you want to have your hand at release point. This will keep it simple. You have that position all the way thru your approach.Bring in your pinkie spread out your pointing finger. As you start your armswing, make sure you keep your arm in close . This will hinder the feeling to suitcase the grip.As the ball passes your side, lock your elbow & keep it locked.
You can try a test run by standing a step behind the foul line. Hold the ball take your last step only & deliver the ball. This way if you hit your leg with the ball in your armswing, it wont hurt MUCH.You are used to having the ball between your side & your arm (suitcase). The closer you keep your arm close to your side, there is no space for the ball to fall by the side falling into a suitcase grip.At the follow thru, stretch out & up keeping your elbow locked as long as possible & pointing your thumb up to the sky(suitcase your thumb points left).
THE KEY IS A TIGHT ARMSWING.KEEP IT CLOSE TO YOUR BODY.
TRY THIS & GET BACK TO ME. YOU WILL FEEL MESSED UP FOR A WHILE & I CAN HELP THAT FEEL.
OH YA, ONCE YOU DECIDE TO GO TO A 3/4 ROLLER, DO NOT NOT EVER GO BACK TO A SUITCASE.THAT WILL BIGTIME SCREW THINGS UP.
