Boxers/dog food

Question
Good afternoon Jannie, I know you are more then likely getting tried of hearing from me, I enjoy reading your answers and we have been trying everything that you suggest, as we are first time Boxer owners. We never wanted a boxer and liked to died when my son brought Tank home and then Dixie, but when Cowboy chose us I wouldn't have changed a thing as we had to put our Bassett down less then a month before. Cowboy has keep Sooner our 7 yr old Chihuahua young at heart, they play together all day.
Now to my question. What would be a good dog food for both Cowboy and Sooner. I keep reading about different brands that you and the other experts have talked about. But we live in a very small town (less then 1500 people) in the SW part of Kansas and we have no pet stores, and our vet only sells Science Diet. I don't mind ordering on line as I do a lot of shopping this way.
Thanks for all of your help.
AnswerHello again, Leasa,
Cowboy is handsome, how could you want anything other than an adorable, lovable,cuddle-bug Boxer?
I was born in Kansas. And I know you have plenty of feed and supply stores. That is where you need to go.
Call them up and ask if they carry "Diamond" brand dog food.
That's what I feed mine. I go between the Lamb and Rice, and Chicken and Rice all the time. Diamond comes in 40lb bags, and is fairly inexpensive- $28 for 40lbs. It doesn't have corn or corn meals, no bi-products and is all natural. Boxers are prone to be sensitive and allergic to corn. Diamond also makes a puppy food, and also a wet food in a can.
What ever treats you give them, try to find treats that are natural without corn products.
A good treat that most like is plain old raw baby carrots! Yep, and healthy for them, good for their crunching desires, and cleans their teeth too. Baby carrots. Get them at the grocery store. Or regular peeled and cleaned carrots cut small like a baby carrot. Either way.
Plain unflavored yogurt is good added to their dry food once or twice a week. It keeps the good bacteria in their stomachs which kills any bad bacteria, thus, no digestive problems.
Let me know if your local feed and supply store carries "Diamond"...
Google "Diamond dog food" and you'll get their web site- and there is a store locator on it to type in your zip code. If it doesn't show your feed store, just call them and ask them (the feed store)...
