Question
I have beautiful female boxer, she is roughly 9 months old.

I know a few people interested in a pup and have a friend who has a male.

Basically I am wondering at what age is it appropriate to breed for the first time?

Answer
2 years old is the recommended age.

The reasoning is:

1) Her body is mature at 2 years old and not before, and had quite a few heat cycles already for pregnancy and whelping. ( 2 per year )

2) She is emotionally mature enough to handle a pregnancy and whelping puppies, and caring for them well. Any younger, and she could very easily not care for them at all, rejecting them completely.

3) 2 years old and older ( 2-4 ) is the perfect reproductive age for reasoning above, and past her puppy stage which is up to 2 years old, reduces the risk of complications.

Do not breed until 2 years old. It isn't worth risking her health and life, and the puppies lives.
