Boxers/The Boxer Lean

Question
Why does my boxer (male, 1 yr.) lean on me with his back half? He'll try to step his back leg over me and lean on me with his butt. If he can't he'll just lean on me with his hind quarter. It feels like he's protecting me (by facing outward) but I'm wondering if it's something else. Thanks :)

Answer
Boxers are an odd loving breed. I've known them to love on people like cats do, rubbing and circling and rubbing again.

His "butt offering" is his way of showing his love. Dogs identify by the scent of their butts and no two are alike, therefore, he is offering you something of value.

Leaning on you is common. It's love, it's touching, it's closeness.

Cuddle him, rub his ears and under jaw and neck, stoke his back and acknowledge the attention back.

Be grateful he is loving on you so affectionately.
