Question
My 3 year old boxer female has had 3 heat cycles already. Her last one was in April which means she should have gone into heat again in October. She hasn't started yet and I was wondering what this could mean. She has never been breed & she is not fixed. Why would her cycle not return?

Answer
Hi Laura,
Thanks for your question. Dogs unlike humans are not as regular so I personally would not worry until it has been 7-8 months without a heat cycle if indeed she has been coming into heat approximately every six months. A vet visit to rule out any underlying medical conditions is always advised tho because of cancer and other medical conditions. If you don't plan on breeding her then vets advised to spay her to reduce her chances of developing certain reproductive cancers and other medical conditions.
