Question

The black Spots
Ok, well about a week or two ago, i noticed my dog missing some hair near his rear end on his back. The spots would first become scabby and then some skin would flake off of them and his hair would go with the skin. Leaving solid black spots on his back. They only got scabby once but not twice. My dad told me not to worry about the spots because skin problems are "normal" in boxers. But the spots are getting larger and are beginning to spread towards his head and his hair is thinning. He is 6 years old and we are not currently in the financial position to take him to the vet. What should i do? What is this? How can i help?

Answer
It could be a number of things.

There is a "black spot" disease of the skin.

It could be thyroid problems and a simple test will tell. The vet takes blood from an artery in his neck and tests it. If there is a thyroid imbalance, medicine daily gets it under control and is inexpensive.

It could be a mange.

It could be skin allergies from diet.  Put him on a natural dog food that does not contain corn and any corn glutens. Boxers are sensitive to those.

But I still recommend taking him to the vet to have these checked out.
