Question
i am wondering how much my dog should wheigh at 6 weeks old? also whats the best dry food for her t be eating?

Answer
Hi Dean,
I don't normally like to answer these questions about weight with a set number.  In reality there is no ideal weight, and every dog is different.  Weight fluctuates all the time, especially when the dog is a puppy. It is more helpful for you to look at the physical characteristics of the dog.  The main thing you should be concerned about is whether or not she is too thin.  If you can visibly see all her ribs she needs to gain some weight.  If you absolutely must put a number on it, generally at that age they can range anywhere from 3-6 pounds.  And again, it depends on the puppy.

As for what food is best for her, you should be feeding her as high a quality food that you can afford.  I don't recommend the pet stores bargain brands.  Definitely have her on a nutritious puppy food, and if she is on the thinner side you should add some wet puppy food to the mix.  Do not add too much wet or you will end up with a puppy that has diarrhea.  Some of the best brands in my opinion are innova, eagle pack, wellness, timberwolf.  There are a lot of very good brands of food that do not fill their kibble with junk that could not only cause health problems later in life, they are unsatisfying for the dog.

Best of luck with your new puppy!
