Question
I have a 4mo old boxer pup. She currently wieghs 13lbs. At 3mo she wieghed 5.6lbs. She is extremley small for her age, but eats like theres no tomorrow.Very active though. Is her wieght normal for her age?

Answer
Hi Scott,
There is no average weight per se, it will depend on the genetics, parents and environment, if her dam was small then she may be as well, she could have been the runt of the litter too and not able to get her share at mealtime. The puppy was very under weight for 3 months old tho in my opinion, as my own puppies at that age are usually around 13 lbs, males being bigger. From what you have described the puppy is gaining and on the right track and is making up for lost time. You should expect her to gain approximately 1-2 lbs a week.Make sure you have your vet check her for parasites as this can cause her to eat like there's no tomorrow. The boxer from 4 months to 1 year of age typically grows taller but doesn't start to fill out in body mass until the second year.It is important to let her eat all she wants until 1 year old while she is developing or at least three meals a day. You should cut the meals to 2 times a day at a year old. Hope this information helps and thank you for your question.
