Question
I have inherited my son's 7 year old female boxer who is, in my opinion, quite overweight. We tried to weigh her but our scale doesn't go up high enough to do it. I would guess 80 lbs. Would it be a health risk to have her neutered? It has been over 40 years since I dealt with a dog in heat. She has a couple of "on top of the skin cysts" but other than that and her weight no health issues.
Thank you,
JM

Answer
Hi JM,
It would be best to have the vet check her out to determine the best course of action to take. The cysts should be checked as well as boxers are prone to cancers. Her weight issue should be addressed as the average weight for females is 50-65 lbs. Thank you for your question.
