Question
My female Boxer just had a puppy on February 16th.  We plan to keep her away from or Male boxer until puppy is 8 weeks old.  This is her first puppy so I don't want her to get pregnant again to quick I want her to have some time.  How soon will she go in heat again.  How soon will they have puppies again after giving birth.  What would you recommend as a good waiting period to let her and the puppy around the male?

Answer
Am I reading this right? "A puppy"? Just one puppy?

If so, that is highly unusual...

She will come in heat again 5-6 months- so keep a calendar on her and watch for signs starting the 5th month.

They can get pregnant each and every time they are in heat- twice a year.

I hope she was at least 2 years old. Having puppies any younger is not good on her.

Do not let her have another litter for 2 years.
