Question
Jannie

Can you give me some info on Anal gland squeezing. I have 2 boxers and have heard that some boxer owners have their dogs anal gland "squeezed" to reduce odor????? I had not heard of anything like this. Can you shed some ligh on this subject.

thank you

Answer
You do not do that unless the anal gland is stopped up and not moisturizing.

If you watch them when they walk around wanting to poop, there anus will be moist and glistening. That is why they are walking and circling, and sniffing around-- waiting for the gland to moisten so they can poop without pain.

There is no truth whatsoever about "squeezing" or manipulating it to reduce or stop odor. That is an old wives' tale. Ask your vet.
