I am concerened about my female boxer. She is 1 1/2 years old and has not yet come in heat! I know this because i watch closely. Also both my males (doberman and pug) never show ANY interest in her. She has never been "flirty" with them either. Her vulva has never swollen or no other signs have occured. She is of proper weight and has a healthy diet and utd on all vacinations. I DONT want her to get bred by my doby. She does have ch bloodlines and a very nice pedigree. I would love to breed her to a male with the same creditials. Is this normal for a boxer? Is there something I can do to induce her heat cycle? Thanks so much for your info!
Answer She is pretty. A fancy fawn.
When a female doesn't have her heat by that age, I would imagine she has a thyroid disorder. High or low.
Thyroid disorders prohibit heats, or they reduce them from two a year, to one. Thyroid disorder can prohibit pregnancy or cause miscarriages.
I recommend you seeing your vet and explaining the absence of a heat cycle and ask for the T4 blood test for thyroid. Simple medication (pills, and I prefer Pala-Tech chewables) twice a day can fix it.
