Boxers/Large lum on my boxer

Question
My female boxer has a lump going from the side of her hip to the bottom of her tail. I can't tell if the hip is out of place or if it is a lump. It doesn't appear to be tender to the touch and she can lay on it just fine. But what it could be concerns me i just found it today and i would like some kind of insight to what it could be before i go to the vet and try to explain it. Do you have and ideas on what it could be?

Answer
Hi Tricia,

If your female can walk fine without any limping or lameness in the hind quarters then I doubt the hip is out of place. It is fairly common for some boxers to experience hip dysplasia, a problem with the hip socket and ball joint not fitting properly. This could be the first signs and its just inflammation due to this. X-rays will help in determining hip dysplasia. Boxers can  also get tumors or lumps both benign and malignant. Benign meaning non-cancerous or diseased lump or tumor and malignant meaning cancer cells are present. Your vet will probably do a biopsy to determine if its benign or malignant. It is imperative that the vet diagnose this tumor or lump ASAP to facilitate proper treatment early for the best outcome. Thank you very much for your question and I wish you and your beloved boxer all the best.

Sincerely,
