Question
I have a 2.7 yr old boxer and she recently had an emergency c-section done. The vet who performed the surgery did not shave her abdomen and due to several other factors my dog almost died. I just want to know what is the importance of shaving a dog's abdomen before any surgery?

Answer
The reasons for shaving the abdomen is bacteria that can be in the hair and on the skin; mites that inhabit hair follicles, chance of stitching hair inside the incision which would cause infection, etc.

There are numerous reasons, and any vet should and would, shave the area to be operated on.

You have a malpractice suit. Seek an attorney that will take your case. The vet was in the wrong.
