Question
Our boxer is 10 months old and she has had two attacks of lifelessness. First, we found her in the backyard and she was not responding to us so we took her to the vet where she swelled up in hives and they said she probably swallowed a bee. With an IV for an hour and benadryl she was fine! Now today she was in the backyard playing, came in the house starting drinking water and we hear a sound like her flopping on the ground. We went to her and she was up but she was dazed. She did not want to move, she did not want water she lost all her color and she was panting. We put her in a cool bath gave her two benadryl and some pedialyte and after about 30 mins of she started to respond again. Any ideas of what is going on? As far as we know: no poisons, no change in food, she had water and some shade (both times) and it was in the low 80's outside. Please help me I cant prevent it if I dont know what it is!!!!

Answer
Hi Jessica,

Sorry for the delay but I haven't been getting my questions from Allexperts for some strange reason for about five days. It could be so many things, I advise to go out with her and do not let her out of your sight outside, you may be able to advise the vet with more details if this happens again.Even tho it has been in the low 80's boxers are very prone to heat stroke so don't let her stay out for more than 15-30 minutes at a time as the temperature could be more with the heat index factor. Do have a complete blood panel done on her and check her heart by holter monitor if possible. Keep a written log as to what she is doing, when, where this happens, time and other details as to how much water and food she has eaten, etc. All this information may help your vet in getting a diagnosis. The first attack probably was some sort of sting, the second I don't think so and sounds more like heat stroke. By any chance did she have any vaccinations close to these spells ? Thank you for your question.
