Question
hi im 25 nearly 26 i have no amateur experience in boxing but want to start up and turn pro do you think i have a chance or will i get killed in the ring i want to get 3-4 years amateur experience in before i turn pro when im 30 is it to late am i in cooku land please answer

Answer
Well - to be honest - you are starting a bit late.  However, nothing is impossible.  8-)  You will need to register with USA Boxing in your area and find a gym and coach where you can learn Olympic-style boxing.  You should train for at least 8 months before your first competition at a local show.  Please email me at mel@amateurboxing.com, tell me the city and state you live in, and I'll send you a contact.

I can answer all questions related to amateur boxing except those having to do with the actual physical training. I am not a coach. 8-) 21 years as an amateur boxing official; certified computer scoring technician; have worked on many tournament administration staffs; have coordinated a major national invitational tournament; have served as secretary, treasurer and Junior Olympic Chairman at the local level.
