Question
QUESTION: hey my name is jared and im 13 years old. i really want to fight in a competition or just a regular bout. I box at home all the time but never at a gym or in a club i was wondering if there was any bouts that i could fight in and they were in the Boston area thank you

ANSWER: Jared,

You will have to register at a gym with USA boxing as an amateur before you can fight. So in order to do that you need to join a golden glove gym or a gym that is sanctioned by golden gloves. Go to usaboxing.org  and click "resources" "membership" and then "find an LBC"

find an LBC in your area and contact them about gym locations in boston and you'll be good to go.

good luck,

Jackson

QUESTION: thanks you. i was also wondering do you no any gyms that are cheap or that I can get a scholarship for but still be a good gym. thank you

Answer
Jared,

You don't need a scholarship to use a golden glove facility because it is free to use. Your only expense will be a once a year fee of around $40 (depending on your location) which registers you as an amateur boxer so you can compete in boxing tournaments. All your training is free and entries into boxing shows.
Gyms that are not affiliated with golden gloves will charge you a fee just like a regular health club so hopefully you have a GG in your area.

good luck,
Jackson

I can answer any questions related to boxing and training. I can help anyone prepare for professional or amateur bouts. My trainer/boss of 24 years is in the Golden Gloves Hall of Fame and trained the heavyweight champion of the world. Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr., Bernard Taylor, Billy Bridges, Frankie Randall just to name a few of the boxers who have passed thru the Southerns and/or trained at our gym.

Experience

I have been in the sport of boxing since 1984. I started as a boxer and advanced quickly. I was lucky enough to have some of the best sparring in the country with 3 top ten pros in my very gym. I am fortunate enough to live near one of the better boxing programs in the country. We have cultivated our facility into the largest Amateur Boxing Gym in the country. In the mid 90's I became a trainer for Golden Gloves. I train amateur and pro fighters. I have worked in many corners at USA and Golden Glove tournaments. I have worked corners in pro bouts on HBO and ESPN cards. My friend, boss and coach is the former President of Golden Gloves and I trained under his tutelage.
