Question
I'm 21 and recently started watching boxing again, i wandered if you could help me, I'm confused as the who are the current world champions. i mean because of of all the different organizations, what the the difference between WBO and IBF for example. and is any one of these the main one, many thanks, Michael. stoke England
Hello Michael,
There are 4 organizations recognized as world titles. WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO. If you have any one of these belts you are a legitimate world champion. One does not hold any more clout than the others, well, not technically. The truth is, the WBA and WBC have been around the longest and in many boxing enthusiasts minds, hold more credibility than the other 2. Not to mention there should only be 2. In my opinion, the more titles you have the the less important each one becomes. It gets watered down.
So anyway, any title other than these 4 I listed are not world titles.

In the mid 90's I became a trainer for Golden Gloves. I train amateur and pro fighters. I have worked in many corners at USA and Golden Glove tournaments. I have worked corners in pro bouts on HBO and ESPN cards. My friend, boss and coach is the former President of Golden Gloves and I trained under his tutelage.

I am a certified Golden Gloves/USA Boxing Coach. I am also a licensed to work pro bouts in several states.
