Question
hello again, i had a question on heavyweight boxing. my little brother who is 5'8 and 210lb and wants to become a amateur heavyweight boxer. and i was just wondering if he even qualified as a heavyweight due to his height? i've come to understand that heavyweights are around 6 feet and up even in the amateur level. and if he does qualify what are some tips on boxing someone who is taller and has a longer reach?

Answer
Hi Jesse,    Your height does not matter in boxing. Only your weight plays a role. He is a heavyweight.
The key for him is to move inside of his opponent's reach and fight inside. He will need to work on hooks and uppercuts and be diligent about keeping his hands up. He also needs to work on moving his head and slipping punches. This will allow him to move inside and use his strength and power against his opponents.

good luck,

Jackson
