Boxing/Injuries in Golden Gloves and amateurs

Question
I was interested in competing in Golden Gloves and some amateur fights as a goal.  Yet I'm weighing the positives and negatives and I'm older so I don't think I'll ever turn pro.  So to help me understand things more I have a question.

My question is what are the worst injuries you've seen or heard of that golden glove/amateur fighters have gotten as a result of fighting in golden gloves/amateurs. I'm thinking the headgear eliminates almost most severe cuts, concussions, and breaks.  And what are the most common injuries to them?  Thank you.

Answer
The instances of injuries other than sore hands and bloody noses are very rare.  The most important word in amateur boxing is "safety."

Golden Gloves competitions happen once a year.  They are a group member of USA Boxing.  All amateur boxers must be registered with USA Boxing and participate in USA Boxing sanctioned events.
