Question
Hi I am 19 yrs old male living in brooklyn ny. I want to become a boxer I am strong like a tank and can pack a punch. I want ot start boxing always loved this sport. I need a gym and a trainer, I called a few gyms and the membership prices are really high. I am willing and dedicated on becoming the best boxer ever. Is their any words of suggestion or assistance you can give me on how to fulfill my dream?

Answer
Hi Andrew,

If you have one in your area, I would suggest training at a golden gloves gym. Go to http://www.usaboxingmetro.com/ and call or email them asking if there are any charges. Normally golden gloves gyms do not charge. If all else fails, you do not have to be a member of a gym to box. The reason it is normally the best route is because of the sparring available. You can put up a heavybag, get you a trainer whp will come over and work with you. You call these pay gyms when you get 3 weeks out from a scheduled fight and see if they have somebody you can spar. You would fight "unattached". But check on that golden gloves and see what the have for you. You can make your goal to win the new york golden gloves which is a pretty competitive card.

Good Luck,

Jackson
