Boxing/diabetes and boxing?

Question
Hi there, recently i have become interested in starting to try boxing. (Although i cant do anything yet because i have torn my cruciate *if thats how its spelt =P* ligament in my left knee, should be having operation late july.) I dont really know much about it, but my dad did a little bit of it with the army and it sounded good, my question is, if i have type 1 diabetes, will they still let me do boxing in the uk? i've had a little look around and found some evidence of a forum somewhere to suggest that i cant, do you know anything about this? i am 15, round about 70 kg give or take (if you needed to know that =P) and live in suffolk england.

Thanks very much for your time.

Ben

Answer
Ben,

I do not see how diabetes would effect a 9 or 12 minute fight unless you had trouble controlling your sugar. In the US I have never heard of anyone not allowed to fight simply because they have diabetes unless it is not being controlled. Rules in the UK may be different than the US so be sure to check the UK boxing. Go here: http://www.abae.co.uk/Contact_Us/index.asp
and email one of the folks listed to get a definite ruling on your question.

Thanks,

Jackson
