Question
We are trying to get a pro boxing charity event here in Sioux Falls. The local sports physicians are not certified by the ABC; do they ned to be and what is required to obtain official certification? I am a certified ringside physician for USA Boxing, but have never done pro fights.

Answer
Hi Dr. Salmon,

Thanks for the question.
Since South Dakota has no boxing commission, you want to get certification information directly from the ABC. Your Regional director for South Dakota is Mary Feist: mfeist@state.nd.us

You can get more info on certification at www.abcboxing.com.

Ringside physicians are required to be certified for pro boxing, just as they are (as you know) for USA Boxing.

I hope this helps, Don.
Thanks again for writing!

Regards,
Lian

I can answer questions regarding rules for both pro and amateur boxing; upcoming bouts; fight analysis/predictions; various other questions. I am an experienced amateur boxing official with USA Boxing (14 years) and I have completed a yearlong professional officials` clinic with the California State Athletic Commission.
