Question
Hello, in his book Basic Boxing Skills Floyd Patterson talks about a jumping punch that he threw in matches he called the "gazelle punch" I was wondering what that was and if it is similar to the superman punch that is used in mixed martial arts and kick boxing?  seen here:

Secondly, I was wondering if that type of leaping punch would be legal in amateur/golden gloves and professional boxing?

Thanks,
Joe

Answer
MMA punches and techniques are not legal in amateur boxing.  For your information, Golden Gloves is a group member of USA Boxing, the national governing body for ALL amateur boxing in the U.S.  There is no separation between "amateur" and "Golden Gloves."  I doubt seriously that MMA punches and techniques would get very far in pro boxing.
