Boxing/punching power and weight loss

Question
Hi, I am just wondering what I can do to become a better boxer. Like what kind of training and drilling can I do to make myself better. I also want to know what I should do to make my punching power increase/make my punches harder. And I am also wondering what I can do to effectively lose weight. I am currently around 170 pounds, but I want to get down to the welterweight or super welterweight division.

Answer
Daniel,

Focus on your fundamentals and perfect them before moving forward. Get all your combinations down pat. Boxing training is a lot of the same stuff over and over. The difference in boxers is your attention to detail of skills, conditioning and your work ethic. Be patient but studious and it will happen.
Hit the weights to increase your strength and make sure your mecahnics of your punch is correct. Power comes from the floor and your ability to generate leverage by rotating your body. Work on your form in front of the mirror and then take it over to the heavybag.

Run, run, run. Get your road work in to lose weight. No soft drinks, never miss breakfast and don't eat late at night before bed. Drink plenty of water. it will come off.

good luck,

Jackson
