Question
I have 2 sons that are training under Howard Davis Jr.
One is 11 and the other is 7.
Can you please tell me where to find info on Florida boxing tournaments that have kids divisions.
Thank you,
Jim

Answer
Hi Jim,
Thanks for the question.
Hopefully, your 11-year-old son is already registered with USA Boxing through your Local Boxing Committee (LBC). For info on how to do that, go to www.usaboxing.org and click on "Member Services."
Once he's registered, you'll be privy to when sanctioned local boxing events are taking place in your local area.
The coach should be registered and certified with USA Boxing as well, and so should the gym in which your son is training. All of this has insurance implications.
The 7 year-old is too young to compete, or to even be registered, and thereby could not be covered under USA Boxing's insurance.

Check with Davis (of whom I was a big fan when he was boxing!) to make sure that he's registered and certified as a coach, and that his gym is registered and covered by USA Boxing insurance. Have the 7 year-old workout at home until he turns 8 and can register legally.

I hope this helps, Jim.
Thanks again for writing!
Regards,
Lian
