Question
What are the benefit for youth boxing and at what age do you feel is appropriate to start.

Answer
Hi Dorrie,
Thanks for the question.
In my experience, I have found the USA Boxing Junior Olympic Program (for boxers ages 8-16)
to be extremely positive and empowering for young participants.
When the components of self-discipline, caring adult supervision / coaching, and supportive family and friends are all aligned, I can honestly say I've seen amateur boxing serve as a powerful catalyst for positive change in individuals, families and even communities, to some extent.
It's not easy for me to address the second part of your question in a generic way, since kids develop at such different rates. The youngest age at which a boxer may compete, per USA Boxing rules, is 8 years. That's way too young for some, and just about right for others. Definitely look at starting age on a case by case basis.

I hope this helps, Dorrie. Thanks again for writing!
Regards,
Lian
