1-  I was 16 years old.

2-  Combined boxer/coach for 25 years.

3-  Athletic nature...I like 1 on 1 competition.

4-  Went in on my own

5-  1 on 1 competition, toughest sport, requires overall conditioning and discipline.

6-  I did at one point but due to unforeseen circumstances that opportunity passed me by.

8-  A very well marketed train wreck

10-  Up at sunrise for run. Early afternoon sparring sessions. Evening technical work on the pads, drills, all types of bag work, exercises and conditioning.

11-  None, most amateur clubs just limp along with small shows.  If you are holding a pro show then they could help. If your holding a televised pro boxing show they could help alot.

12-  Women have a right to compete.

13-  It's cheating, dangerous, lazy and shows a lack of character.

14-  The rules are different. Boxing has become safer. Matches are shorter. There are more styles, Boxers now are more athletic. Boxers now are stronger and faster due to advances in training and weight lifting. Boxers generally move more now. Back then they basically just stood toe to toe and went at it.

15-  We teach discipline, respect and sportsmanship. Ultimately they will have a more positive impact on society.

I can answer any questions related to boxing and training. I can help anyone prepare for professional or amateur bouts. My trainer/boss of 24 years is in the Golden Gloves Hall of Fame and trained the heavyweight champion of the world. Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr., Bernard Taylor, Billy Bridges, Frankie Randall just to name a few of the boxers who have passed thru the Southerns and/or trained at our gym.

Experience

I have been in the sport of boxing since 1984. I started as a boxer and advanced quickly. I was lucky enough to have some of the best sparring in the country with 3 top ten pros in my very gym. I am fortunate enough to live near one of the better boxing programs in the country. We have cultivated our facility into the largest Amateur Boxing Gym in the country. In the mid 90's I became a trainer for Golden Gloves. I train amateur and pro fighters. I have worked in many corners at USA and Golden Glove tournaments. I have worked corners in pro bouts on HBO and ESPN cards. My friend, boss and coach is the former President of Golden Gloves and I trained under his tutelage.
