Question
QUESTION: I am 28 and have been training boxing for about 12 years. I have had no formal training though in a boxing gym. I hit the heavy bag, speed bag, double end bag, punch mits and practice defense with a slip bag at home in my garage. Im also in good shape. How do I enter my self in amateur boxing to get some fights. I really just want to see what I've got. Everyone's telling me to do it. Do I need a gym to sponsor me or can I go at it solo.

ANSWER: Hi Daniel you will need to register with USA Boxing in your area and have a registered and certified coach work your corner.  Please email me at mel@amateurboxing.com, tell me the city and state you live in, and I'll send you a contact.

QUESTION: Hello Melanie,
Thanks for the answer. You asked me for the city and state i live in to find a registered coach for amateur boxing. I live in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Also what would my training partner need to do to be a registered coach to work my corner?

Answer
Hi Daniel - you can register at any local show (a calendar of events is on my web site - www.amateurboxing.com - under "Southern California Assn."  You will need a copy of your birth certificate, two head-shot pictures and an annual membership fee of $40.00.  Your training partner will also need to get registered (annual cost is $45) and must be certified before working a corner - I believe the next clinic is in May.
