Question
QUESTION: Hi.

I've been wondering this for a long time and haven't been able to find information on it.

How old do you have to be to be a professional Boxer?

Is there any requirements for my friend, who's training me, to become a trainer to train me as a professional boxer.

ANSWER: Santiago,

You can turn pro at 17 and fight as long as you like or until the governing bodies ban you or force you to retire and/or no one will grant you a license to fight.
Some organizations will not allow you to turn pro after a certain because your starting too late and there is a safety factor involved. For instance the WBA says you cannot start a pro boxing career after age 36. Although they leave a stipulation there for extenuating circumstances.

Your trainer has to have a license to work your corner in each state you fight in. The license is acquired via that state's athletic commission.

QUESTION: What do I have to do to become a professional boxer once I reach the required age?

What does my trainer (he's 18) have to do to get a license to work my corner in each state I fight in?

If you can, tell us where we need to go as well. I live in Los Angeles, Ca.

Thanks

Answer
Santiago,

Each state is different but most of the time it requires submitting a form to your state's athletic commission and paying a fee.

Your trainer does the same thing except his form is a non-athlete or "second" form. He also pays a fee.

Go to this website and look to the left, click on the licensing forms link.... there you will see your pro paperwork.....  follow the instructions
