I was lucky enough to have some of the best sparring in the country with 3 top ten pros in my very gym. I am fortunate enough to live near one of the better boxing programs in the country. In the mid 90's I became a trainer for Golden Gloves. I train amateur and pro fighters. I have worked in many corners at USA and Golden Glove tournaments. My friend, boss and coach is the former President of Golden Gloves. I am also one of the trainers and cornermen for a promising professional heavyweight.

Question Hi, my name is Devin and I play highschool football for the San Juan Broncos. I am planning on boxing on the 4th of July and need to train for it, but I really need to start training for football too. Is there any way that I could possibly train for both? Mosltly what I need to do is work on my hand eye coordination, foot speed, agility, strength in my legs and upper body, and i need to be fast. I also would like to start a diet with a lot of protein and calcium. I have a bad left ankle, and left knee is there anything that I should do about it other than wear a brace? Please get me any information that I could use I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Devin
Answer Devin,
The cardio you do for your boxing should cover your football as well. I would focus mostly on your conditioning and get plenty of sparring in. Nothing will prepare you more than sparring.
You can wear a soft brace in the fight but no metal.
I would do plenty of footwork in the ring while punching. Every time you jab yu should step with your left foot (assuming your right handed). This will help your hands and feel work in cohesion which will help your overall coordination.
This is a good start but the most progress will come as you get more fights and more sparring.
