AboutJackson Rose Expertise I can answer any questions related to boxing and training. I can help anyone prepare for professional or amateur bouts. My trainer/boss of 24 years is in the Golden Gloves Hall of Fame and trained the heavyweight champion of the world. Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr., Bernard Taylor, Billy Bridges, Frankie Randall just to name a few of the boxers who have passed thru the Southerns and/or trained at our gym.
Experience I have been in the sport of boxing since 1984. I started as a boxer and advanced quickly. I was lucky enough to have some of the best sparring in the country with 3 top ten pros in my very gym. I am fortunate enough to live near one of the better boxing programs in the country. In the mid 90's I became a trainer for Golden Gloves. I train amateur and pro fighters. I have worked in many corners at USA and Golden Glove tournaments. My friend, boss and coach is the former President of Golden Gloves. I am also one of the trainers and cornermen for a promising professional heavyweight.
Organizations I am a certified Golden Gloves/USA Boxing Coach. I am also a licensed Second for pro bouts.
Question Thank you for your time. To make a long story short I'm 21 years old and I have trained in martial arts for years. Karate and Jeet kune Do concepts. I use to full contact fight and tournament fight. I have always been very good with my hands. Every instructor I had said my hands were very fast and explosive. My hands is were I'm comfortable the most and the reason I won the matches. My last full contact fight I had was with a cage fighter. My best defense against him was my hands. After that I fell in love with boxing. I love it more than any martial arts I have ever done. I guess because I can relate to it. Boxing is awesome and even my martial arts instructors talked highly of boxers. I'm in my 3rd year of college but my real dream is to find a boxing center and train. I really believe in my heart that if I could find the right person I could be somebody ya know. Whats your thoughts on the situation? My favorite boxer is Iron Mike Tyson!! lol
Answer Josh,
You should get some amateur fights and see what happens. There is no way to know unless you try. You need to find a good gym that is a Golden Gloves franchise. Here you can get everything you need without having to jump through hoops. The trainers are usually good here and are former boxers. Your trainer will be important to your success. Not all trainers have the same knowledge or teaching ability. He will mold you into the fighter you will later become.
I am assuming you are around 20 or 21 so go ahead and get started so you can develop quicker before you become an open level fighter. Who knows, you could win a national title and qualify for the Olympic team....with a college degree to boot.
