Answer
Pat,

At 31 it is hard to build a record in time to be a contender. Although, you could become a journeyman fighter and maybe get some decent paydays by your upper 30's. I say this because a contender needs to build a strong winning record in order to be taken serious. This takes years because your opponents have to carefully selected and you can't just take every fight that is offered. But a journeyman would fight anybody anytime and get more fights as a result, but, you'll be doing this at the sacrifice of a mediocre record or even a losing record. But as a journeyman you won't care what your record is. You might get some fights against contenders and have a shot at beating them and making a name for yourself real quick.
But remember that this is long punishing road to take. So it is something to think about.

good luck
