Question
I used to be in boxing when i was around 16 years old and trained for 3 years but I was never interested in fighting amateur or pro. I just liked being in shape and sparring.  I even sparred a few times with pro Juan Lazcano and actually held my own in the ring with him.  Now I am 33 years old and am really considering getting into boxing again and this time actually fighting.  I was told that at my age I have to start off as a pro.  Is this true? Please give me any information you might have......

Answer
Hi Alex,
Thanks for the question.
Technically, you can still compete as an amateur in USA Boxing's regular program until you turn 35. After that point, your amateur competition would be restricted to the Master's division, which has significant strings attached.

If you have specific questions about registering with USA Boxing as an amateur, write back and let me know.

Thanks again for writing!
Regards,
Lian
