Boxing - 140lb Golden Glove vs. 215lb Novice

Expert: Joe Hofer - 9/16/2009

Question
I have a friend who is 6'2" and 215 lbs.  He is a good athlete, and played college tennis.  He has lightly trained in a boxing gym the past year or so, but would be considered a novice, and has never been in an organized boxing match.

My friend believes that because of his size and strength, he would be able to defeat a 140lb Golden Glove fighter.  In your opinion, does my friend stand a chance?

Based on the above information, would you be able to set-up a fight for my friend?  He is willing to pay $3,000 to locate the best fighter that meets his criteria.

Thank you.

Jared

Answer
I would not touch that with a ten foot pole.  Weight is very important that is why they have weight classes.  Obviously if the heavier guy cant fight at all then perhaps the smaller one could win, but you should not go there and never attempt to fight out of weight classes.
