Boxing/Becoming a Pro Boxer

Question
I began training as a boxer a few months ago, although I had some prior experience in the past. I am turning 27 years old but still feel as if Im 18. Can I still make it as a pro sooner than later?

Answer
Kareem,

There are lots of things that have to come together in order to have a successful pro career. You can't just be good. You have to have a lot of amateur experience preferably on a national level as an open division fighter.
Before you turn pro you need to surround yourself with people who know boxing and are looking out for your best interest.

It is very hard to make it as a pro fighter without plenty of amateur experience. It makes the journey long and difficult.

You can fight amateur in the U.S. until your 34. If I were in your shoes and was bound and determined to fight pro I would get as many amateur fights as I could in 3 years and if by the time I am 30 I have made it to at least the semi finals of a national tournament as an open level fighter, I MIGHT consider going pro.

good luck
