Question
Hi Melanie, I am currently doing an internet research assignment at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. My topic is 'Teaching boxing in schools: Should it be part of the curriculum?' and I was just wondering if you had any opinions on this. I am after both pros and cons and would appreciate any views you may have.
Thank you very much for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.
Sarah

Answer
I definitely believe that boxing should be taught in schools, starting at the level when the athletes are 10 years old.  In the U.S., our boxers can start competing at the age of 8.  I believe that the sport of amateur boxing teaches good sportsmanship, self-esteem and self-discipline.  Any schools working with USA Boxing, our national governing body, are given secondary sports medical coverage and a 2 million dollar liability insurance policy as part of their registration.  I really don't have any cons as long as the programs are run by USA Boxing's rules.
