Question
HI, I AM 19 YEARS OLD LIVING IN ATL GA. I RECENTLY ACQUIRED MY AMATEUR BOXING PASSPORT AND PLAN TO FIGHT IN AN UPCOMING TOURNEY. HOWEVER, I BELONG TO NO GYM AND HAVE NO TRAINER. I WORK OUT ON MY OWN AND STUDY A LOT OF PRO FIGHTERS TO LEARN TECHNIQUES. I CANNOT FIND ANY NON PROFIT GYMS IN MY AREA SO I PLAN TO FIGHT "UNATTACHED".CAN A UNATTACHED FIGHTER ADVANCE IN AN OPEN TOURNEY TO REGIONALS, SEMI FINALS, ETC? IS IT REQUIRED TO HAVE A TRAINER BY RULE OR SOMETHING, BECAUSE I REALLY DONT THINK I NEED ONE........(YET). PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU KNOW.THANK YOU.

Answer
"Unattached" only means that you have not registered with a gym.  However, in order to compete in sanctioned amateur shows, you must have a registered and certified coach in your corner.  If you aren't training with anyone - and you really should since you can't see what mistakes you make - you can always ask a coach at a show or tournament to be in your corner.
