Question
I am 23 years old and I am thinking about learning how to box.  I don't want to be a professional or anything, but I would like to compete eventually, just for fun.  I had a few questions:
Are there competitions locally, that I could observe (especially women)? I'm from Louisville, KY. (I hear it's very different from what's on TV)
You said that amateur is "less bloody" and more strategic in another post, is this especially true for women's boxing?
I am 5'6, 130lbs- Are there weight classes for beginners/casual boxers?  If so, what range would I be in?
Thank you!

Answer
Please email me at mel@amateurboxing.com so I can refer you to a contact.  Amateur boxing is very safety oriented for all boxers, male or female.  Everyone starts out in competition as a beginner/novice and your weight class will be determined by your current weight.
