Boxing/Too late to start at 20?

Question
I have been in martial arts for about half my life, and I've always had an interest in boxing. However, I've never been able to find a trainer or gym near me. Recently within the past year, one opened up a few minutes from my place and I'm thinking about getting into it. I'm 20 right now, turning 21 in January, and wondering what disadvantages I would be at starting this late in the game.

Answer
Hi Jonathan - Considering that most amateur boxers start between the ages of 8 and 10, starting at 21 means that you will be competing mostly against athletes who have many more years of experience.  However, if you have the desire and will, and are dedicated, starting at 21 isn't too big a hurdle.  I suggest you compete as an amateur for at least 3 or 4 years before turning pro, if that is your goal.  You should also find out if the gym near your house trains amateur boxers - pro style won't do you much good as an amateur.  Good luck!
