Question
hello,

i wanted to ask u about training.,  i see on you tube that the elite boxer be training real hard an it looks like everyday.  so i asked my trainer about it because i feel i need to get more out of training because now boxers are somewhat lazy and i have a hard drive to get the work in.  and he told me that its only good to work hard twice a week so it gives your body time to heal.  so what do u have to say about that and how should i train

Answer
Hello Eric,

That is a good question. There is a fine line between pushing yourself and over-training. So you have to find that gray area.
You should get a hard boxing workout 3 days a week. On the off days, you should be running 3 of those days. On the 7th day, you rest, no workout.
You are not going to run on your boxing days. You should be jumping rope during your boxing nights for about 15 to 20 minutes. The rope work plus your running should get a good handle on your cardio. This is a good mix of workout intensity and down time to recover.

I don't recommend sparring more than twice a week. If you spar too much you can become stale and lose your edge. This basically means you don't want to leave all your fight in the gym, save some for the actual match.

Best of luck to you
