Question
How do I start training to become a referee?

Answer
If you want to become a professional referee, you need to check with your State's boxing commission and see what their requirements are.  For amateur boxing, you will need to become a volunteer member of USA Boxing (yearly fee, January to December) and attend a 6-8 hour certification clinic.  You will then start out learning to time keep and then move up to judging.  It takes about a year to start training as a referee, less if you are very active.  If you are interested in amateur boxing, please email me your city and state (mel@amateurboxing.com) and I'll send you a contact for your area.
