Question

Golden Gloves 2011
My husband name is Kevin Davila and is an amateur boxer and is eighteen years old. His record is 14-4. What fights would he have to win to qualify for National golden gloves and the Olympic trials? Also, if he fought in other states would it help to expand his name?

Answer
Hello,

In order to qualify, first he has to be an open division fighter. Since he has 18 bouts, then he should be fighting open already.

He has to qualify for his regional tournament. There should be a smaller local tournament that is a qualifier for the regional. First you have to win the local qualifier, then he fights in the regional. If he wins the regional then he qualifies for the National Golden Gloves.

He must win his division at the nationals to qualify for the trials.

He can also try for the trials going thru the USA Boxing tournaments the same way. The first qualifier is called "districts", if he wins then he goes to the "regional" (aka. box-offs), and from there he will go to the USA Boxing National Championships.

Fighting out of state would have no bearing on his ability to get to the nationals or the trials as related to his name circulating.

good luck
