Boxing/running

Question
Mr. Rose, when it comes to running, is it necessarily true that a fighter will recover better with more miles under his belt or will it be more along the lines of more powerful lungs equal better recovery. I do both types of running and have seen arguments for both sides and favor the sprinting/interval side. Still, I can't help thinking about the older fighters including my favorite (Marciano). I mean, he was literally a stamina monster and by the sounds of it, he did a LOT of long running.

What's your take on it, thanks for your time.

BTW...the advice you gave on style to me is working good so far.

Answer
Caleb,

Back in the day trainers didn't have access to the knowledge we have now. We now know that you need both. With the exception of a few, most of the fighters in those days fought at one pace, flat footed and stalking in nature. It was a methodical steady which would be ideal for distance running.
There are many different styles these days and many fighters try to be versatile in the ring so they don't get pigeon holed. The best course of action is to mix in some interval training with your some of your distance runs... or, at the end of your run do some 50 and 100 yard sprints.

That way you've got all the bases covered.

Good Luck
