Question
I am 38 years old and considering competing in boxing just for fun. I have been training for about 6 months, the last two with a retired professional boxer. Are there women in my age range who are competing? Or am I going to be competing with mostly women in their 20s? I am 5'7" and 160 lbs.
Hi Jackie,
At a USA sanctioned event you would be boxing women in your age group. There are only a few tournaments for the older age groups in the amateurs but I understand they are pretty fun. The women in their 20's will only be boxing women from 17 to 34 as that is the age range for a usa registered amateur boxer. After 34 you must turn pro or retire. But the older age groups have caught on pretty well as part of the tournaments.

Experience
I have been in the sport of boxing since 1984. I started as a boxer and advanced quickly. I was lucky enough to have some of the best sparring in the country with 3 top ten pros in my very gym. I am fortunate enough to live near one of the better boxing programs in the country. We have cultivated our facility into the largest Amateur Boxing Gym in the country. In the mid 90's I became a trainer for Golden Gloves. I train amateur and pro fighters. I have worked in many corners at USA and Golden Glove tournaments. I have worked corners in pro bouts on HBO and ESPN cards. My friend, boss and coach is the former President of Golden Gloves and I trained under his tutelage.
