Question
Hi im 15 and have just started kickboxing at a community centre. Are group is called the fighting lions and is very well put together and the people who run it are proffesionals. My 17 yr old friend had some 8oz gloves from a long time ago that he has used them for ages. So when i went to order mine i thought that oz was the size of the glove like S,M and large. So i phoned him and because his ones fit me i thought i would find out what he had so i ordered the 8oz and they fit fine well a little tight but fine and nice and small, but i was wondering seeing as i am begging will they be okay im going to ask my instructor but would like to know your oppinion as well.
             Thanks alot Nathan,

Answer
Hi Nathan,

I am assuming that you are talking about gloves for your hands and not for your feet. Actually 8oz is a little small for working out. You need plenty of protection in your workouts so you don't bruise your hands. If you are sparring then you should be using 16oz. gloves. But if you are using them for a normal workout like hitting the heavybag then you can wear either 12 or 14 oz. When you go to a fight in boxing your hands will be inspected by the doctor during your pre-fight physical for bruises or cuts and if you show signs injury he will not let you fight so it's important to protect your hands while training. In boxing you will either fight in 10 or 12oz depending on your weight division. Of course boxing and kickboxing have differences, but that is the way it works for boxing.
Good question.....and good luck with the kickboxing.
