Boxing/Age restrictions in boxing

Question
I have just started at a boxing club, though I am 35 years old.
I am led to believe this is too old to join the Amateur boxing
association? where does this leave me when it comes to getting a
bout?
Is there an old but still amateur league? Otherwise so many other
sports seem to let any one start at any time why not boxing?

Answer
Hi Simon,

Thanks for the question.
Under USA Boxing, you can still compete at and beyond the age of 35. You would, however, be designated as a "master boxer," and subject to some restrictions as outlined in the USA Boxing rulebook. The rulebook can be accessed online at www.usaboxing.org, and the info on Master Boxers can be found on pages 9 and 10.

One such restriction is that master boxers can only compete against opponents within 10 years of their own age. There are also some medical requirements that need to be satisfied prior to competition as well.

I hope this helps, Simon.
If you need additional info on how to register, let me know1

Thanks again for writing.

Regards,
Lian
