Question
I am not really taking up boxing but more of an interest in fighting. I have been getting into a lot of fights lately. As well as I have recently started lifting weights and bought a 80 pound heavy bag. I have lifted weights off and on for years I'm only 17, 5'10" and weigh 150. I am really working out alot now but I dont use my punching bag other then to hit it around here and there. Anyway, now that you know a bit about me and my physical condition. (I smoke forgot to mention haha) yeah I want to learn some routines and such to hit the bag with. I've searched many sites and found alot on this article but it doesn't really make sense to me.
4 x 3-minute rounds – Skill emphasis
4 x 30-second punch-out drills
Finish with 1 x 3-minute round
What exactly is a skill emphasis, punch out drill, and what do I do the last round etc. etc... Really I just want to go from beginner things to really hitting it like a pro and practicing with the bag correctly. Please give me some tips and advice from everything offensive possible. I'll learn defense on my own I suppose. Their is also no classes in my area near boxing or any other form of martial arts. Thank you for your time.

Answer
hello Xthejesta,

you should get used to hitting the bag in 3 minute increments with one minute rest between... when you hit the bag, skill emphasis means that you are focusing on your form and trying to put combinations together in a good rhythem... throw in combinations like for instance, left jab-righthand-lefhook...thats called a 1-2-3... or double jab-righthand ...1-1-2.... (im assuming your righthanded).... you should lead with your jab (your weaker hand) because it sets up the righthand (the stronger hand)... you have a much better chance of landing the big punch if you set it up first with a smaller one....

the punch out drills are 30 seconds of nonstop punches......rest for 30 and then start again....these punches are all straight, no uppercuts or hooks...

good luck and thanks for the question,
jack
