Question
Hello Mr. Shoemake,

Last night during Barrera's unification title  bout, The question "does a boxer has to have nose surgery before fighting" popped up. I made the argument that "no they don't" other's argued that they do. What's you answer from your boxing experience inside and outside of the ring.

Answer
Hi Christian,

Thanks for the interesting question :)

You are correct; there is absolutely no requirement for a boxer to have nose surgery before competing. That would seem like a pretty counter-productive mandate for someone who is about to be punched in the face.
Now, many may need nose surgery AFTER they fight, but that's another issue!

I hope this helps, Christian.
Thanks again for writing.

Regards,
