Question
I am 15 years old and when i box someone, or hit the punching bag my fingers start to tingle then they start to kind of hurt. Could you tell or explain to me why this happens.

Hi Josh,

Hand tingling could be from several reasons. First, they are not wrapped or protected properly. Second, you are not closing them tight enough when you punch and your fingers are "banging" together. Or third, maybe you are clenching them too hard in the fist. And fourth, perhaps one of the above is pinching a nerve in your hand to actually cause the pain.  You say they "..kind of hurt" after the tingle. Where does it Hurt? in the wrist? in the palm? in the large knuckles of all the fingers? can you narrow it to just one finger, or inbetween two fingers?  

Since it happens every time you hit the bag, and proceeds to pain, I would suggest seeing a sports physician specialist in your area OR a certified athletic trainer, physical therapist and get it properly examined. You might also consider going to a local boxing club or boxing gym if there is one in your area and ask a boxing coach to observe your punching technique to be sure it is correct.
